CHICAGO — Two community gardens in the Woodlawn neighborhood will reopen after they were abruptly closed by the church that owns the land, the Chicago Tribune reports.
The gardens were closed by the First Presbyterian Church of Chicago in March because of a disagreement between the gardeners and the church’s new pastor, according to the Tribune.
People in the neighborhood launched a campaign to re-open the gardens, and now a spokesman says the gardens could re-open as soon as this week.
The gardens produce more than a ton of produce for residents of the South Side.
