CHICAGO — The original The Angry Crab restaurant in West Rogers Park closed this week after failing a health inspection.
The violations included failing to keep the walk-in cooler at the proper temperature for seafood. The cooler temperature was as high as 70.5 degrees,”with potentially hazardous food inside, including shrimp, oysters and clams,” according to a city Health Department report.
Some other foods found in hazardous temperatures include 50 pounds of sausage, 40 pounds of king crab legs, 100 pounds of shrimp and 5 pounds of calamari. According to the inspection report, the food was immediately thrown away.
The Angry Crab posted a statement on Facebook, saying the restaurant coolers were having “crabby difficulties” and hopes to reopen soon. They also encouraged seafood lovers to visit their newest location in Wicker Park.
