SCHAUMBURG – In this age where Social Media is king, no one is more talked about than a quarterback who hasn’t taken a snap in an NFL regular season game since 2012.

That’s the power of Tim Tebow, whose work on and off the field creates an exorbitant amount of attention no matter what he does.

Don’t think the Schaumburg Boomers have overlooked that.

Just hours after a report by ESPN revealed that Tebow will pursue a career in pro baseball, the independent Frontier League team in the Northwest Suburbs became the first to make a formal offer towards the former quarterback.

This tweet was posted late Tuesday morning as the team officially drew up a contract for Tebow to be an outfielder for the team.

“We’re looking for an athletic outfielder who can bring some leadership and competitiveness into the clubhouse,” said Schaumburg Boomers Manager Jamie Bennett in a news release from the team. “Tebow brings all of those characteristics and then some. I think he’d be a great fit here in Schaumburg.”

Tebow has not played organized baseball since 2005. That was before he became the starting quarterback at Florida where he won a Heisman Trophy and helped the Gators to a pair of national titles. He played the 2010 and 2011 seasons in Denver before being traded to the Jets in 2012. He was in training camp with the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles since that season but has yet to appear in a game since his time in New York.

Per the article by ESPN announcing Tebow’s intentions to play baseball, the former quarterback has been working out in Arizona and Los Angeles in preparation for a career in baseball.

“I understand that Tim’s ultimate goal is to make it to the major leagues, just like every other guy on our team,” stated Boomers General Manager Pete Laven in a release from the team. “With our proximity to Chicago and the fact that major league scouts come through our park on a regular basis, I think this is the perfect situation for Tim to showcase his skills in a game situation.”
