Northbrook police officer Enrique Guzman has resigned after being arrested for stealing jewelry from a house.

Investigators say they caught the theft on video, as the 12-year veteran officer responded to a police call on January 30.

The stolen diamond ring turned out to be fake.

Police say Guzman told them he planned to give the ring to his girlfriend.

He is still in jail, unable to post a $3,000 cash bond.

According to officials, the arrest comes after a 5-month investigation into Guzman by police and the FBI into suspicious thefts and burglaries that Guzman responded to as an officer.
