Residents of Deerfield have been instructed to boil their drinking water after fecal coliform has been discovered in the village water supply.

In a press release, the village says the water is “contaminated with human or animal waste, which can cause illness.”

They advise boiling the water for at least one minute before consuming in any way; such as drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and food preparation.  Bottled water is suggested as a safe alternative.

The boil order will remain in effect until at least Tuesday at noon.
