KENOSHA, Wisc. — Franks Diner in downtown Kenosha opened in 1926 and holds a special place in the hearts of many.

The diner has been serving up history for 98 years and honors two of WGN’s very own.

“Franks Diner is the longest continuously running diner in the world,” co-owner Kevin Ervin said. “The place has been running steadily since 1926.”

The long and narrow lunch car seats 55 people in total and was originally purchased by founder Anthony Franks for $7,500. After it was delivered from New Jersey by train, six horses pulled the railcar to the spot where it stands today.

The vintage diner has hosted many celebrities over the decades including Bela LugosiDuke EllingtonLiberace, and The Three Stooges. Recent sightings include countless Green Bay Packers and Kenosha’s own Mark Ruffalo

In 2014, WGN featured Franks as one of Chicago’s best road trip spots.

The biggest seller at Franks is the Garbage Plate, which consists of three to five eggs mixed with hash browns, green peppers, onions, and your choice of meats and cheeses.

Next month, WGN will reveal the “rare” gift Franks Diner gave to Tom Skilling for his retirement.
