BROOKFIELD, Ill.– A suburban community is rattled after someone shot and killed a man while he was sitting in his car, right in front of his home.

Michael Smith, 33, of the 3700 block of Forrest Avenue in Brookfield, was gunned down Wednesday afternoon. He was pronounced dead at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood at 12:46 p.m., according to police.

Smith was a security guard and a father of two. Witnesses say he pulled up in front of his house and was ambushed by an individual or individuals in a blue car.

The car is described as a new model, four-door hatchback, brilliant deep blue color and a partial Illinois plate: Z21.
