AURORA, Ill. — An alderman from suburban Aurora, Ill., has been charged with retail theft.

According to the Aurora Police Department, Aurora 10th Ward Alderman Lynne M. Johnson, 51, of the 400 block of Plaza Place, Aurora, was charged with misdemeanor retail theft after an incident that occurred Sunday night at the Meijer Store in the 800 block of North Route 59.

The police department says it’s the second time Johnson has been charged with retail theft since 2013.

According to Aurora Police, an employee at Meijer allegedly witnessed Johnson concealing various markers, pencils, holiday party favors and two bottles of Ibuprofen in her purse.

Johnson allegedly went to the checkout line and paid for the other items she had in her shopping cart. The employee claims she never paid for the concealed items.

According to police the employee confronted Johnson outside the store and notified Aurora Police.

The value of the merchandise was $55.21, police said.

In August, 2013, Johnson was also charged with retail theft for taking $150.24 worth of cosmetics and food from the same Meijer store, Aurora Police said.

Johnson posted $150 cash bond and was released. She is due in court March 7.
