CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. — Police have determined that an attempted child abduction in Crystal Lake was actually an Uber driver trying to pick up his fare.

The incident happened at a bus stop near Virginia Road and Darlington Lane Tuesday afternoon.

A girl told police that a man told her to get in his red sedan with tinted windows.

“The driver mistakenly believed the juvenile was his Uber fare he was scheduled to pick up in the area,” police said in a statement. Crystal Lake police confirmed that the Uber driver’s intended fare was another young female.

Our thorough vetting process resulted in the conclusion that no criminal act occurred: It was a misunderstanding,” police said.
