CHICAGO — Some UIC student athletes are getting together to form a new team.     But this effort isn’t about competition.   It is about helping people in need.

SPARK – Students Performing Random Acts of Kindness. The group was formed six months ago to put an end to homelessness and hunger in Chicago.

Every day this week, members have split up and hit city streets bringing meals to area homeless.

The idea has also brightened the lives of the athletes. They numbered just 10 when the group started in November and made homemade lunches two times a week. They are now up to 60 members and in this five days of SPARK push before finals, even have a lunch sponsor on board.

125 meals are going out this week, bringing the total number handed out since the group began to 600.
