OSHA has launched an investigation after four people were injured in a construction accident in the West Loop Monday morning.
The Chicago fire department tells says two of the workers were on a beam about 20 feet in the air when it gave way just after 9 a.m. The workers fell with it.
Two others, on the ground, were also injured.
One worker fell an additional 10 feet into a hole.
“We’re not sure exactly why it happened but structural steel failed and we think we had two ironworkers on the I-beam that rode the collapse down about 20 feet,” Asst Deputy Commisioner of the Chicago Fire Dept Mark Nielsen said.
The four workers were brought to three different hospitals.
Everyone is expected to survive.
