The Federal Aviation Administration is shifting money around to keep 149 small and regional air traffic control towers from closing.
Congress authorized the transfer of funds to allow the contractor-staffed towers to stay open through at least the end of September.
They were supposed to close June 15 due to the sequester related budget cuts.
The Gary/Chicago International Airport, Waukegan Regional Airport, St. Louis Regional Airport, Central Illinois Regional Airport, Decatur Airport and Southern Illinois Airport are affected.
