Top 10 Taco Joints… ¡Versión Dos!

We’ve had good Mexican all over Chicagoland and our absolute favorite has to be… tacos! Our last Top 10 left a little to be desired so in honor of #NationalTacoDay episode we’ve decided to update the list. As always, our list is based on YouTube views of our taco featured segments, so just because you don’t see your favorite doesn’t mean we haven’t been there… cause we probably have… and ate a torta or a burrito or something else that was totally delicious and worthy of topping some other list! 1. Taco El Jaliciense: After years of waiting tables, owner Jose Torres decided to open his very own taqueria. Jalisco-style al pastor is the star of this Humboldt Park taqueria, and even though the spit isn’t as big as in his hometown, Jose makes sure the taste is just as authentic. Location: 2859 W. Chicago Ave. in Humboldt Park
2. Taco In A Bag: In 2015 Pat “Deep Dish” Bertoletti and crew busted out of their food court digs and set up shop in Lincoln Square. One thing that hasn’t changed though is their inventive take on the walking taco. Homemade chips, chorizo and pepper jack make up the original Big Jim- the perfect taco to eat on the go. 3. Jerk Taco Man: “Huge” is an understatement when it comes to the jerk chicken tacos from the man himself. Loaded with over half a pound of meat and topped with onions, cilantro, cheese, and jerk sauce- you might need a few more tortillas to take it all down! Location: 4001 W. Jackson Blvd. in West Garfield Park
4. Paco’s Tacos: Carne Asada doesn’t need to be complicated to be good and the original Paco’s in Brighton Park knows the secret- chop it thin, season with lemon juice and salt, and load it up in an El Milagro tortilla. Hey, when you sell 3,000 tacos a day you might just know what you’re doing! Location: 4311 S Archer Ave. in Brighton Park
5. Carnitas Don Pedro: Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood is known for its rich Mexican heritage, so it comes as no surprise that Carnitas Don Pedro, a neighborhood fixture, makes some of the best carnitas tacos in the city. For 14 bucks you get a carnitas platter that could feed an entire family. Make sure to load up on tortillas, because you’ll want to finish every last bit. Location: 1113 W. 18^th in Pilsen
6. Taqueria El Milagro: Carne Asada makes its second appearance on our countdown with a name that’s probably familiar to most Chicagoans: El Milagro. In addition to tortillas and chips you can buy in the store, El Milagro pumps out up to 500 steak tacos a day at their Pilsen taqueria. Topped with cabbage instead of lettuce, these trademark tacos will have you worshipping the miracle of steak! Location: 1923 S. Blue Island Ave. in Pilsen
7. A Toda Madre: The west burbs may not be known for their Mexican food, but A Toda Madre is staking its claim for greatness! With 10 inventive and delicious tacos, including an al pastor to die for, Chef Abel Cortes is putting Glen Ellyn on the taco map! Location: 499 N. Main St. in Glen Ellyn
8. Mercadito: This River North hotspot features a dozen different taco options, so we don’t blame ya if you feel a bit overwhelmed. A good place to start is the el pescado- tilapia fried to crispy perfection and topped with signature mojo and avocado. Two bites is all you’ll need to finish these tiny tacos, so make sure you’ve got that menu handy! Location: 108 W. Kinzie St. in River North
9. Carnitas Uruapan: If you’re looking for great carnitas tacos, Uruapan is right up your alley… which is exactly where you might be waiting. Weekends bring lines down the block for this Pilsen cornerstone and for good reason. Often served family-style, Carnitas Uruapan tacos don’t need much more than a little salsa to have you squealing with joy. Location: 1725 W. 18^th in Pilsen
10. La Chaparrita Taqueria:The little women of Little Village may be bringing up the rear on our list, but many have called them the best in the city. If you’re feeling adventurous order up the tripa tacos and delight in the juicy, crispy south side brilliance! Location: 2500 S Whipple St. in Little Village
